At the very entrance to Makarska there is the Vepric shrine devoted to Our Lady of Lourdes, established in 1908 by the bishop dr. Juraj Carić (1867-1921), who is also buried there. The natural cave and the entire landscape with hills, vegetation and streams among them is very much alike the Lourdes Sanctuary. This shrine is well visited during the entire year; the main pilgrimage days are: 11 February, 25 March, 15 August, and 7 and 8 September.
